Located in the Hall of the Entrepreneurship Laboratory Building, Faculty of Economics and Business, Diponegoro University (FEB Undip) CEO Talks were held with the theme Turning Disruption Into Opportunity: For a Better Indonesia which was held at 09.00 WIB. This CEO Talks is one of a series of 60th Anniversary of Faculty of Economics and Business Undip. The event was attended by Erwin Haryono as Executive Director of the Payment System Policy Department of Bank Indonesia and Agusty Tae Ferdinand, and M. Rizki Fadilah as moderator.

This event began with the singing of the song Indonesia Raya and Mars Undip by all participants present. Then continued with a speech delivered by Suharnomo as dean of Faculty of Economics and Business Undip. And then entered the core session which began with the presentation of material by Erwin Haryono about the Industrial Revolution 4.0 or Digital Disruption. Erwin asserts that the Industrial Revolution 4.0 is not about computers, because computers and even the internet already exist in 3.0. What is now happening is a revolution where our format of the economy is done digitally. Keep in mind it’s not a matter of revolutionizing the technology but how it can create new business models. Based on the presentations related to Amazon, Ali Baba, and Facebook that will transform into Libra, disruption is not only faced by banks but also faced by central banks, which will later move as an extraordinary monopoly system.

When viewed from today’s business world, competitors of transportation, retail, media companies are technology companies. For example, transportation companies compete with technology companies such as online motorcycle taxis, retail companies compete with e-commerce, this shows that these industries have been disrupted even including Indonesia. Indonesia as well as China is now a good study case, because the digital disruption that occurs in the economy is even stronger than in developed countries. This is because it is influenced by demographic factors, because developed countries are based on the demographics of the ageing population where older people may not be very enthusiastic about technology. In Indonesia, the demographic structure is dominated by young people who are very enthusiastic about the new thing. And the second reason is that in developed countries almost all adults already have a bank account, while in Indonesia based on 2017 data around 49% of the adult population does not have a bank account. Therefore, when the new business model enters there, the impact can be predicted to be stronger compared to developed countries.

Furthermore, the second presentation was delivered by Agusty, about how technological disruption or the era of disruption to the Indonesian economy. Based on the data shown, Indonesia is ranked sixth in the world in the largest internet usage. Approximately eight hours per day Indonesians actively use the internet. But that begs the question that its impact on the economy does not affect significantly. This is because most of the use of the internet is used not for potential activities but only for socializing.

After finishing the presentation of the material by Erwin Haryono and Agusty Ferdinand, followed by a question and answer session with the participants. CEO Talks was closed by handing over placards to Erwin Haryono and Agusty Ferdinand then followed by a group photo with invited guests.
