Semarang, June 5, 2025 – The Islamic Economics Study Program at Diponegoro University (UNDIP) successfully held an International Visiting Lecture on Thursday, June 5, 2025, with the theme “Islamic Finance Amidst Geopolitical Uncertainty: The Role of Religious Logic in Institutional Resilience”. The event was conducted online via Zoom and attended by over 250 participants, including academics, lecturers, and students, particularly from Islamic economics disciplines.
The lecture featured Dr. Wahyu Jatmiko, B.Sc., M.Sc., AFHEA, an Assistant Professor of Banking & Finance from the Southampton Business School, University of Southampton, United Kingdom. In his presentation, Dr. Jatmiko emphasized the importance of religious logic in building institutional resilience within Islamic financial institutions facing systemic risks caused by global geopolitical uncertainties.
“Enhancing the qualifications of analysts and economists, especially for the Sharia Supervisory Board, is a strategic step to uphold the values of maqashid sharia in banking practices. This is crucial to ensure Islamic financial institutions remain robust amidst global dynamics,” said Dr. Wahyu Jatmiko during the discussion session.

This event is part of UNDIP’s initiative to internationalize its Islamic Economics Study Program, aiming to expand global academic networks, strengthen international classes, and provide international exposure for students. Through this program, UNDIP is committed to delivering relevant and up-to-date learning aligned with global economic challenges.
In his opening remarks, Prof. Akhmad Syakir Kurnia, M.Si., Ph.D., expressed appreciation for the event, stating, “This event encourages academic development and international collaboration in Islamic economics. It is an important step to strengthen UNDIP’s position globally.”
